Course Overview
The prophetic books are some of the most powerful and beautiful writings in the Bible. They contain warnings, promises, poetry, history, visions, and messages of hope. Yet they are also among the most misunderstood books of Scripture.
Why?
Because many readers begin by asking what the prophets say about our own time before asking what they meant to the people who first heard them.
In this course, we will study the prophets the same way we have studied every other part of the Bible.
We will begin with the historical setting.
We will ask why the prophet spoke, whom he addressed, and what message God was giving to that generation.
Only then will we ask how the New Testament explains the prophet's words and how those truths apply to us today.
Along the way, we will discover that the prophets consistently call God's people back to faithfulness, announce both judgment and hope, and point forward to the coming work of Jesus Christ.
Rather than treating every prophecy as a puzzle about the end of the world, we will allow each prophet to speak in his own context while following God's unfolding plan of redemption.
