Course Overview

Every generation faces the same challenge.

The world changes.

New ideas become popular.

Long-held beliefs are questioned.

Practices once accepted are rejected, while ideas once rejected are often celebrated.

Christians live in the middle of those changes.

The question is not whether culture changes.

It always has.

The question is whether God's truth changes with it.

Throughout history, God's people have often been pressured to conform to the thinking of the world around them. Sometimes that pressure has come through governments. Sometimes through popular opinion. Sometimes through philosophy, education, or entertainment.

The same challenge exists today.

As Christians, we should treat every person with kindness, dignity, and respect because every human being is created in the image of God.

At the same time, our beliefs and our conduct must be shaped by God's Word rather than by the changing opinions of society.

In this course, we will examine several important issues that Christians face today.

Rather than asking what is politically popular or culturally acceptable, we will ask what the biblical writers actually taught.

As in every course, we will begin with the text.

We will study passages in their context.

We will seek the author's intended meaning.

We will allow Scripture to interpret Scripture.

And we will distinguish between God's unchanging truth and the changing values of every culture.

This course is not about winning arguments.

It is about learning to think biblically.

Our goal is not to criticize people.

Our goal is to understand God's will so that we may live faithfully, love others genuinely, and represent Christ well in every generation.

As always, our guiding principle remains the same:
