How Did Jesus Fulfill God’s Plan?
From the moment sin entered the world, God promised a Redeemer. Through Abraham, He promised a blessing for all nations. Through Moses, He gave the Law. Through the prophets, He announced a coming King, a new covenant, and a Savior.
Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of those promises.
He did not come to begin a new story.
He came to complete the story God had been telling from the beginning.
Jesus Himself said,
"Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to abolish but to fulfill."(Matthew 5:17)
Throughout His life, Jesus fulfilled what the Law, the prophets, and the Scriptures had pointed toward.
He is the promised offspring of the woman who defeats the serpent.
He is the descendant of Abraham through whom all nations are blessed.
He is the Son of David who reigns forever.
He is the true Passover Lamb whose blood delivers His people.
He is the perfect High Priest who offered Himself as the final sacrifice for sin.
He is the Mediator of the New Covenant promised by the prophets.
At the cross, Jesus accomplished what the sacrifices of the Old Testament could never accomplish.
"By one sacrifice He has made perfect forever those who are being made holy." (Hebrews 10:14)
His resurrection declared His victory over sin and death.
His ascension placed Him at the Father's right hand.
His reign continues today as He rules over His Kingdom and intercedes for His people.
Because of Christ, forgiveness is no longer found through repeated animal sacrifices.
It is found through His once-for-all sacrifice.
Because of Christ, access to God is no longer limited to one nation or one priesthood.
Everyone who comes to God through Jesus may approach Him with confidence.
Everything in the Old Testament pointed forward.
Everything in the New Testament points back to Christ.
He is the center of God's plan.
Without Him, the Bible is a collection of unfinished promises.
With Him, every major promise reaches its fulfillment.
That is why Jesus stands at the center of Scripture.
He is not simply one character among many.
He is the One to whom the entire story has always been leading.
