Putting It All Together
Throughout this course we have followed one story from beginning to end.
It began with a perfect creation.
It ended with a perfect new creation.
Everything in between explains how God restored what sin had broken.
We saw that God created men and women in His image to live in fellowship with Him. That fellowship was broken when Adam and Eve chose to reject God's authority and determine right and wrong for themselves.
Yet before they left the Garden, God gave hope. He promised that one day the offspring of the woman would defeat the serpent. From that moment on, the Bible follows that promise through Abraham, Israel, the Law, the prophets, and finally to Jesus Christ.
We learned that Abraham was chosen so that all nations could be blessed. The Law prepared the way for Christ by revealing God's holiness, exposing sin, and pointing forward to the Savior. Everything in the Old Testament moved toward the coming of Jesus.
In Christ, God's promises reached their fulfillment.
Through His life, death, resurrection, and exaltation, Jesus accomplished what no one else could. He defeated sin and death, established His Kingdom, and opened the way for all people to be reconciled to God.
Through the gospel, men and women from every nation are now being called into God's family. The church is not an interruption in God's plan. It is part of His eternal purpose, revealing His wisdom as people from every background become one in Christ.
The story, however, is still moving forward.
Christ reigns today, but one day He will return. The dead will be raised, death itself will be destroyed, and God's people will live forever in His presence.
When we step back, one great truth becomes clear.
The Bible is not sixty-six unrelated books.
It is one story.
It is the story of a faithful God who kept every promise He made and accomplished His purpose through Jesus Christ.
From Genesis to Revelation, Christ stands at the center.
The promises point to Him.
The sacrifices point to Him.
The prophets point to Him.
The Kingdom belongs to Him.
The church belongs to Him.
The future belongs to Him.
If you remember nothing else from this course, remember this:
The Bible is one story about one Savior carrying out one eternal purpose for one redeemed people, all to the glory of God.
That is the story of redemption.
